Applied Groundwater Modeling

Finite Difference Flow Model, K Distribution

Finite Difference Flow Model Milltown MT, K Distribution (Berthelote 2013)

Groundwater modeling is one of many techniques used to understand groundwater conditions and forecast the impact of future actions. My modeling experience is very applied as reflected in my co-authoring of Applied Groundwater Modeling (1992) and the and the totally revised second edition (August 2015).

My work has applied standard groundwater modeling tools to:

  • explore basic processes and flow and contaminant transport using generic box models.
  • test conceptual models and identify data gaps using interpretative modeling.
  • predict likely changes that would occur from future actions using forecasting modeling techniques.
  • assess recharge sources and well capture zones.
  • interpret flow within fractured dual porosity settings.
